Referee Adrian Hill injured during Thursday Night Football game

Game continues with six officials. Umpire Roy Ellison steps into referee position.

Referee Adrian Hill left the Thursday Night Football game between the Bills and Texans after a non-contact injury.

The game continued with six officials, with umpire Roy Ellison working the referee position.

This is the first time since the 2021 season that a referee has had to come out of a game due to illness or injury. Back then, Tony Corrente fell during a game and needed treatment. He eventually returned to action and finished the game.

Every NFL crew drills for this scenario during the preseason. The referee sits out for part of a preseason game while his designated substitute works the referee position. Ellison was part of this drill earlier this season and unfortunately, he was pressed into service tonight.

We wish Adrian Hill a speedy recovery and hope he can return to the field soon.
