Officiating crews for the 2020 season

Note from the editor:

No doubt this is a season unlike any other. The crews as originally assigned are below, but the officiating department will not be using these crews. Although there is no confirmed answer as to how this is proceeding, the league appears to be individually assigning officials to games, while keeping some clusters of geographically close officials together. The concept of a crew will not be the same in the 2020 season. As the season begins, a more clearer picture of the league’s intentions may take form, but as a few sources have said to us, it appears that the league is constantly revising the procedure.

The original post appears below.

Football Zebras has obtained the officiating crew rosters for the 2020 NFL season. This season, there are six new officials to replace nine that left the field. Notably, for the first time since the 2014 season, there will be no swing officials on the staff this year.

Field judge Land Clark was promoted to the referee position following the on-field retirement of referee Walt Anderson, who is now a part of the triumvirate in charge at Art McNally Gameday Central. In the past 7 seasons, the NFL has promoted 11 officials to the referee position.

The NFL has added a fourth woman to the officiating crews with the hiring of Denise Crudup as a replay assistant. Three other women will serve as replay assistants at Art McNally Gameday Central in New York during the season. These new centralized replay assistants were all hired from NCAA Division II conferences. Also of note, there are three former NFL players on the officiating roster: back judge Steve Freeman, field judge Nate Jones, and umpire Terry Killens.

Senior staff

  • Al Riveron, senior vice president of officiating — centralized replay representative
  • Perry Fewell, senior vice president of officiating administration
  • Walt Anderson, senior vice president of officiating training and development
  • Russell Yurk, vice president of instant replay — centralized replay representative
  • Bret Ayers, director of video technology

Regional officiating coordinators

  • Garth DeFelice
  • Bill Leavy
  • Wayne Mackie
  • Doug Rosenbaum
  • Gary Slaughter
  • Rob Vernatchi

Centralized replay assistants

  • Desiree Abrams
  • Sebrina Brunson
  • Artenzia Young-Seigler

  1. What happened to DJ phil McKinney, FJ Steve Zimmer and FJ Lee Dyer and U Bill Schuster

  2. I find some of these day jobs interesting.
    Federal Agent
Customer Home Builder and Ex-NFL player
    Custom Cabinetry
    Rancher
    Agribusinessman
    Sports Park Director

    And my favorite:
    Retired

  3. No mention of Mike Defee on the senior staff. Did he decline the position you previously reported on?

  4. He’s on the staff as a position coach. We don’t have the names of all the position coaches, nor do we completely understand their role in grading, etc. Previously, we have left the old-school trainers and observers off this list.

  5. Fire Jerome boger and promote U Barry Anderson or U Alan Eck to referee or FJ Tra blake to referee or U and put steve Zimmer on a crew and Bring back Umpire Bill Schuster and being back FJ lee dyer and DJ phil mckinney
