Ron Snodgrass named national coordinator of officials for the NCAA

The NCAA announced Monday that veteran referee Ron Snodgrass has been named the new national coordinator of officials for college football, marking a changing of the guard in the sport’s officiating leadership.

Snodgrass will officially assume the role on Sept. 1, succeeding Steve Shaw, who is retiring after a highly influential career on the field and in the national office.

Bringing decades of on-field experience to his new position, Snodgrass has spent the bulk of his collegiate career as a referee in the Big Ten Conference. Known for his steady command of the game, Snodgrass has routinely been assigned to high-profile postseason matchups, including last years CFP semifinal between Ole Miss and Miami, as well as the first round 2024 CFP matchup between Clemson and Texas.

In his new capacity, Snodgrass will act as the primary liaison between the NCAA Football Rules Committee and the officiating coordinators from all FBS and FCS conferences. His responsibilities will include continuing to standardize officiating mechanics across the country, managing the national instant replay protocols, and providing official interpretations for complex rule changes.

Hopefully, Snodgrass continues the production of weekly media tapes, which Shaw effectively utilized to review relevant on-field calls during the regular season.
