The 100th season in NFL history begins Aug. 1, just three miles from the location of the first league meeting at a Hupmobile dealership in downtown Canton, Ohio. During that meeting on Sept. 17, 1920, the American Professional Football Association was formed with the current Cardinals and Bears franchises and 12 other teams; it would become the National Football League 2 years later.

The Thursday night game will be carried on NBC, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern. Terry McAulay will begin his second season as the NBC rules analyst.

Football Zebras has confirmed that Walt Anderson, who is beginning his 24th season, will be the referee in the first preseason game of 2019 between the Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos. He will have his regular crew on hand for the game.
