Week 5 referee assignments

Shawn Hochuli will lead his crew into Foxborough, Mass., this week for his first primetime game as a referee, as the Colts take on the Patriots. Walt Anderson and Ron Torbert are off this week, since the Bears and Buccaneers have a bye.

Clay Martin has been assigned to work two New York Jets games in back to back weeks, which is a very unusual scheduling occurrence. With that in mind, and as stated in previous weeks, scheduled assignments are subject to unannounced changes.

Update 10:45 p.m. — The league made changes to the assignments, which it confirmed Tuesday afternoon. Morelli is moved from Detroit to New York, Martin from New York to Cleveland, and Hussey from Cleveland to Detroit.

  1. What do you mean “Walt Anderson and Ron Torbert are off this week, since the Bears and Buccaneers have a bye.”?
As far as I know, Torbert hasn’t refereed in any of those teams games.

  2. There is always 1 crew off every week. In weeks when teams have a bye, an additional crew is off for every 2 teams on the bye. There is no correlation intended between the officials and the teams, just that an extra crew is off this week
