Football Zebras is looking for a few good writers to join our team. We need knowledgeable contributors to help us with some of the tasks to maintain this site as a distinguished and trusted source of rules interpretation and officiating news. These tasks include:
- post mid-week officiating news, when available
- maintain reference information and spreadsheets for editorial purposes
- assist in social media
Depending on availability and expertise with the subject matter, we can extend other avenues of contribution, such as general reporting, live blogging, or spring football coverage. However, we are in need of covering some of the routine aspects of the site, so that is the priority.
This is a hobby, not a job, and it will pay accordingly. The staff shares the advertising revenue based on a formula that measures one’s contribution to the site. Conversely, we recognize that a hobby does not interfere with gainful employment and everyday life, and our expectations are measured as such.
We must insist on an above-average understanding of NFL rules and officiating. A test will be sent to serious applicants. Quality of writing is also paramount. Our subject matter can be very dull and dry, and it is incumbent upon the writer to communicate with the reader through engaging storytelling, stepped approaches to complex topics, and an authoritative command of the topic.
The ideal candidate has at least a basic understanding of WordPress, social media, and spreadsheets. Knowledge of Associated Press style, HTML and CSS is a huge plus.
Have one or two links or a document ready for upload with your writing samples (preferably sports related, but hopefully demonstrating the qualities listed above). Contact writers@equitycreative.com for the application/rules test by March 25.
