Dave Wyant, former NFL side judge, has been presented with the 2021 Art McNally Award. He is the award’s 20th recipient. The Art McNally Award is named after the former head of officiating from 1968 to 1990 — and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022 nominee. The award recognizes an official for “exemplary professionalism, leadership and commitment to sportsmanship on and off the field.”  The NFL began this award in 2002.

Wyant, an official in the NFL from 1991 to 2013, wore the number 16 throughout his entire career. Wyant earned 17 postseason assignments in his career, including 5 Wild Card Playoffs, 9 Divisional Playoffs, 2 Conference Championships, and his final NFL game, Super Bowl XLVIII. He served as the side judge on crews led by referees Gerry Austin, Dale Hamer, Walt Coleman, Larry Nemmers, Tom White, Bernie Kukar, Ron Winter, and Jeff Triplette.

After leaving the field, Wyant worked in the league office scouting college officials, eventually being named chief scout and director of officiating recruitment.

Wyant, 74, resides in Crozet, Va., and is the proprietor of The Wyant Store, a family-owned general store that has been in operation since 1888. For over 30 years, Wyant worked as a civil engineer.

Congratulations to Dave Wyant on this well-deserved honor.
