Corrente and Hussey are Conference Championship referees

Football Zebras has confirmed the assignment of referees Tony Corrente and John Hussey to the Conference Championship games on Sunday. Corrente will have the AFC game between the Titans and Chiefs; Hussey will be heading the crew for the NFC title match between the Packers and 49ers. Corrente and Hussey both officiated on the field in the Wild Card round.

Officials are listed with their uniform number, years of NFL experience (including this season), the crew each official worked with in the regular season (by the referee’s name), college, and outside occupation.

All times are Eastern.

Four alternates are assigned to each game: 1 referee, 1 umpire, 1 short wing (down judge or line judge), and 1 deep position (side judge, field judge, or back judge). The prior playoff experience that is listed for the crew chief includes his service as an NFL official, including as referee and any other crew position (excluding alternate assignments).

Tony Corrente is the referee assigned to officiate the AFC Championship this Sunday in Kansas City. Corrente is in his 25th season as an NFL official, and his 22nd as a referee. His first 3 seasons in the league were as a back judge, known today as the field judge, as the league swapped position titles in 1998.

This is Corrente’s 20th postseason assignment, including 8 Wild Card Playoffs, 5 Divisional Playoffs, 6 Conference Championships, and Super Bowl XLI.

Corrente officiated the first matchup between these two teams during Week 10 in Tennessee.

Corrente, 68, lives in La Mirada, Calif., and is a retired educator, and the former Pac-12 officiating coordinator.

For the first time since being promoted to the referee position, John Hussey will be officiating in a Conference Championship game. Hussey has been assigned as the referee for the NFC Championship in Santa Clara, Calif.

Hussey was hired by the league in 2002, worked 13 seasons as a line judge, and is now in his 5th season as referee.

This is Hussey’s 13th postseason assignment, including 5 Wild Card Playoffs, 4 Divisional Playoffs, 3 Conference Championships, and Super Bowl XLV. His Super Bowl assignment was as a line judge.

Hussey, 55, is from Huntington Beach, Calif., and is the founder and CEO of a fundraising company that supports animal-welfare nonprofit organizations.

  1. Corrente? Good grief! An old man who did a poor job in the wild card game and he gets rewarded?

Oh well, the head of officials in NY was a terrible referee and in haste to remove him from the field … they gave him the NY job.

    Please fire Riveron and Goodell.

  2. Perry paganelli just officiated the nfc divisional round and eugene hall just officiated the AFC divisional round

  3. So now Corrente is working his 3rd plafoff assignment, 2 games and an alternate. The past assumptions about who will work the Super Bowl and Conference Champ. games based on previous assignments are somewhat out the window. Eugene Hall and Perry Paganelli worked last week and are working this week. Assuming Hochuli is not eligible for the SB that leaves Anderson, Blakeman and Vinovich. They have now been assigned to one game and been an alternate in the other which has probably not happened in over 15 years.

  4. wow as big of a blunder as Corrente had in the wild card and they gave him a conference championship game. how are they guys the top rated officials only

  5. Does this mean Torbert is a Tier I level official this year as he got no playoff game (live or alt). Does he deserve that?
