Frank Gifford, the Hall of Fame running back for the New York Giants in the 1950s and ’60s and longtime broadcaster on Monday Night Football, died at the age of 84, just a week shy of his birthday.

Among Gifford’s numerous accomplishments, he started for the Giants in the 1957 NFL Championship against the Baltimore Colts. In the third quarter, Gifford was marked short of a first down on a third-down run. The call was “upheld” by replay in a 2008 ESPN documentary that recreated the play digitally.

His number 16 was retired by the Giants.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Kathie Lee, their children Cody and Cassidy, and his children Jeff, Kyle, and Victoria.
