Head linesman Ed Camp has been off the field this season, apparently sidelined by a grave illness earlier this year.

Sources familiar with the situation say that Camp was in intensive care for an undisclosed illness. While we have heard he was in serious condition during the preseason, we do not have information on his current condition. Camp continues to be listed as an active official, but he is replaced on Bill Leavy’s crew by a head linesman whose crew is on a bye week. There is no information at this time if or when he will return to the field this season.

Camp is not permitted to speak to the media as an active official, and the league declined comment. The officials union did not respond before publication.

Football Zebras would like to, on behalf of the entire officiating community, extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers in Ed’s recovery and to his family. Feel free to express your sentiments in the comment area at the bottom of this post, and we will make sure that he receives them.
