Two veterans replace the retired Green and Winter

NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino confirmed to an Associated Press reporter yesterday that Ronald Torbert and Craig Wrolstad will be referees for the upcoming 2014 season.  Torbert and Wrolstad replace retired referees Scott Green and Ron Winter.

Wrolstad has been a long time field judge on Ed Hochuli’s crew and has 11 years of experience in the NFL.  He wears uniform number four.  He officiated Super Bowl XLVII.  Torbert wears uniform number 62 and has been a NFL official for five years.  He has worked on crews led by Ed Hochuli and Tony Corrente, and has officiated playoff games.  Both officials have collegiate experience as a referee.

Both officials worked during the 2013 preseason at the referee position as an audition for future openings at the white hat.

Mark Schultz is a high school football official, freelance writer and journalist. He first became interested in officiating when he was six years old, was watching a NFL game with his father and asked the fateful question, "Dad, what are those guys in the striped shirts doing?"
